On March 28 and 29, the Santa Barbara District Attorney's Office competed in the Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay, a 120 mile running relay race from Baker, California to Las Vegas, Nevada. The S.B.D.A. team finished 4th out of 16 teams in the Invitational 800 category (combined ages of 20 runners must total over 800 years). The team completed the course with no penalties, no injuries and a finish time of 17:48:18, an average pace of 8:54. The team is looking forward to competing again on March 19 and 20, 2016 and bettering this year's time.
I am informed that our new MOU has been implemented for pay period 2. If you go to the ESS website you can access your new hourly rate of pay; it should have increased 3% + your merit/step increase for 2014. In addition, attorneys at the Senior level (below $75.00/hr) should see an additional 2% increase.
You will also notice a small increase in your "unit cash". Your bar dues and CDAA dues will be paid by the office. If you have already paid either amount, please fill out a reimbursement request and you will be reimbursed for your payment.
The "retro-active" portion of the contract has been a little challenging for the County to calculate, given that everyone has a different rate of pay and a different "anniversary month". I am informed that some of the calculations may have been completed in time to make it into some checks for pay period 2. For everyone else, the retroactive pay should be in your paycheck for pay period 3 or 4 (one of the checks you will actually receive in February).
Finally, for those that have MCLE compliance requirements for this year please visit the CDAA website for webinars and/or self-study modules to complete your hours.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this email or any part of your new paycheck.
After the County declined to make any offers during contract negotiations, the Association declared the negotiations were at an impasse, on 8/31/14, and the matter was sent to fact-finding before a neutral hearing officer. The fact-finder, in a non-binding report, found in favor of the Association.
Here is the neutral fact-finder's decision:
On February 11, 2014, the Santa Barbara Deputy District Attorney Association formally delivered their endorsement to Sheriff Bill Brown. Sheriff Brown announced this endorsement during his campaign kick off in Santa Barbara on February 11, 2014.
On September 8, 2013, the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office, in conjunction with the Santa Maria Police Department, held the first Traffic Safety and Awareness Memorial Walk. Hundreds of members from the local community showed up to Preisker Park in Santa Maria, and participated in the memorial walk. Licensed, leashed, and safe dogs were also invited to attend.
The event included several local first responders, including SMPD, CHP, Cal. Star, and AMR. Various dignitaries also attended, including DA Joyce Dudley, and assemblyman Katcho Achadjian. The event raised over $2,400 for victims of traffic casualties, which will go towards a fund to create a memorial at Preisker Park in the future. Most importantly, the event raised awareness in our community as to dangers of dangerous driving.
